Reuse and Recycling
I aim to work as sustainably as possible. All the metals I buy are sourced from UK refiners who guarantee they are made from 100% recycled materials.
I am very happy to reuse customers' own precious metals and stones
Metal Recycling
Precious metals can always be reused or recycled. The best way to do this depends on the metal and its condition.
Sometimes materials can simply be reused in a new design. For example an old gold ring can be used to make the band of a new gemstone ring. If the changes are small, sometimes the original hallmark can be retained.
When reuse is not practical, sometimes the metal can be melted down, alloyed with new metal and used to make new jewellery.
Where neither of these is practical, metals can always be sent away for reprocessing and the value of the precious content set against the cost of a new piece.

Stone Repurposing

Precious stones from old jewels can often be reset into new, elegant designs.
If old stones are worn, chipped or damaged they can sometimes be re-set in ways that minimise imperfections and maximise their beauty.
When a stone's imperfections are too great to reuse, they can often be re-polished or re-cut economically.
Sometimes the cost of recutting or repolishing is more than the cost of a new stone. The best solution for a particular piece will depend on the stone and whether its reuse would have any sentimental value.
